Financial Controller (New York, NY)

 

About this position:

As KraveBeauty’s Financial Controller, you will oversee the financial operations of our rapidly growing business and be a meaningful member of the team. Initially, you will be a team of one (supported by an outsourced CPA), so you must be a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves type of manager and should enjoy a fast-paced, start-up environment. Your role will be crucial to ensure that the company has the proper financial controls and reporting procedures and systems in place to effectively grow the organization and to ensure financial strength, efficiency and sustainability. The position will report to the CEO.

(Our NYC office is currently working from home till the end of the year, but the candidate must be able to commute to our NYC office once it reopens in 2021)

Build the company’s finance function to ensure we're developing a scalable approach to long-term planning, strategic corporate finance, financial operations, international expansion, and more. 

 

Your role at KraveBeauty

[FP&A: Analysis, Budgeting, Forecasting and Reporting] 

  • Serve as a strategic financial business partner to the CEO, Director of Operations and the leadership team
  • Prepare timely and appropriately informative reports on financial performance on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis
  • Provide strategic insights and conclusions based on financial analysis, working cross-functionally with the leads of business units in the US & Korea
  • Develop and track cross-company efforts to improve gross margin and cash flow
  • Create and maintain key performance metrics and dashboards to ensure the optimal operation of the business. Identify initiatives for improvements that can positively impact the financial outlook of the company, including developing, tracking, and executing business initiatives with the company’s leadership
  • Coordinate the analysis and reporting of actual results with outside accounting firm and be responsible for the preparation of budgets and forecasts for the company
  • Evaluate the revenue, profit, cash flow and value creation potential of new product introductions or business decisions

 

[Accounting and Control]

  • Establish and/or maintain all corporate accounting policies and procedures
  • Maintain the books of the company in accordance with generally accepted accounting policies 
  • Manage the financial controls related to revenue, costs of goods sold and operating expenses
  • Maintain direct relationships with the company’s bank and lender
  • Ensure that federal, state and local tax reporting compliance requirements and other filings are met

Technical but important stuff

  • Strong business sense; able to utilize financial data to influence company’s decision-making
  • Strong understanding of DTC drivers and metrics
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent technical discipline
  • At least 5 years of financial management experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, operational risk assessment and financial reporting
  • Experience in a multiple stages of growth of a company  
  • Experience in a fast-paced start-up environment
  • Experience in developing and presenting business plans, models, and financial forecasts to senior management and the executive team
  • Willingness to own the building of complex financial models, considering a variety of business inputs; ability to communicate the results and the impact to the business economics, accounting, tax and cash
  • Preferred but not required: CPA qualifications and public accounting experience
