About this position:

KraveBeauty is hiring a Director of Sourcing & Product Development to lead two things that make our product process real: the upstream work of building a genuinely traceable, regenerative supply chain, and the downstream work of validating what we build against real consumer insight, testing, and data. This role also owns KraveBeauty's overall sustainability strategy and its regulatory compliance.

Sustainability at KraveBeauty starts at the product. This role holds clear, company-wide ownership of that strategy: what we source, how we source it, and how every step from raw material to launch reflects it. It is not a sustainability function that sits inside product development; it is a sustainability strategy that product development exists to carry out.

This is an execution and expertise-driven role. The Founder originates product concepts and sets brand vision; this role is responsible for validating that vision from both ends, sourcing and vetting the ingredients and suppliers that make it real, and running the consumer research, testing, and insight work that sharpens it before and during development. The ideal candidate has genuine curiosity and passion for regenerative agriculture and ingredient traceability that matches the Founder's own, real rigor in consumer research and testing methodology, and the discipline to execute against a bold vision rather than needing to originate one.

Your Role & Responsibilities at KraveBeauty:

 

Upstream Sourcing & Supply Chain Validation

• Identify, evaluate, and build direct relationships with farms, seed breeders, foragers, and byproduct/waste-stream sources for novel ingredient opportunities.

• Own the technical vetting process for new ingredient suppliers and fermentation technology partners: strain IP and documentation, metabolite and efficacy data, batch-to-batch consistency, and manufacturing compliance.

• Lead due diligence and structure recommendations for co-development and potential joint-IP partnerships with ingredient houses and research institutions.

• Build and maintain KraveBeauty's network of regenerative and traceable sourcing partners, treating these as long-term relationships, not transactional vendor accounts.

• Validate and document full traceability for key ingredients, farm of origin, harvest season, and growing practice, in a form usable for both internal decision-making and eventual customer-facing storytelling.

Consumer Insights & Product Validation

• Design and lead consumer surveys, focus groups, and product testing to validate and refine product concepts before and during development.

• Translate consumer feedback and testing data into clear, actionable inputs that actively shape the product development process.

• Partner directly with the Founder to pressure-test new product ideas against real consumer response, sensory testing, and efficacy data, ensuring concepts are validated by empirical data alongside internal instinct.

• Own structured testing protocols, concept testing, sensory panels, in-use efficacy testing, as products move through development.

Product Development Execution

• Individual Contributor & Cross-Functional Leader: This is a high-level, execution-focused individual contributor role. You will not have direct reports, but you will have significant cross-functional support. You will partner closely with our Operations Manager (who is deeply integrated into the supply chain), our VP of Finance & Ops, and our Director of Ops. You will also manage relationships with external formulators, regulatory agencies, and have the budget to bring in outside consultants or resources as needed for specific projects.

• Translate Founder-led product concepts into technical specifications, formulation briefs, and development timelines.

• Oversee the full NPD lifecycle: formulation development, supplier coordination, testing, quality control, and launch readiness.

• Maintain detailed, organized records across all product development stages, formulation, testing, sourcing, and supplier communications.

Regulatory & Compliance

• Own regulatory compliance across all relevant markets, including claims substantiation that is scientifically sound and properly documented.

• Navigate origin and traceability documentation for international ingredient sourcing.

• Stay current on evolving ingredient and labeling regulations and ensure the full portfolio remains compliant.

Sustainability & Reporting

• This role owns KraveBeauty's sustainability strategy company-wide, not just the sustainability workstream inside product development. Sourcing and product decisions are the primary lever; this role is accountable for making sure that lever is pulled deliberately at every stage, driving intentional action at every stage.

• Set and own KraveBeauty's overall sustainability strategy, starting from sourcing and product decisions, integrated from the very beginning.

• Own and publish KraveBeauty's annual Impact Report as the authoritative account of that strategy.

• Develop and track sustainability metrics and targets across sourcing, packaging, and formulation, and report progress to company leadership.

• Partner with sustainability experts and suppliers to identify and implement best practices, with a specific focus on regenerative and traceable sourcing over generic sustainability claims.

Founder & Vision Alignment

• Partner directly and regularly with the Founder on ingredient vetting decisions and sourcing strategy; this role reports to the President, with close, ongoing collaboration with the Founder specifically on sourcing and vision alignment.

• Bring genuine, demonstrated curiosity about regenerative agriculture, ingredient traceability, and fermentation science, bringing an existing passion and foundational knowledge to the role.

 

Skills & Abilities:

 

• 8+ years of experience in product development, ingredient sourcing, or a technical/scientific role in skincare or a related consumer goods category.
• Demonstrated genuine interest in regenerative agriculture, ingredient traceability, and sustainable sourcing. We're looking for someone who already resonates with this, bringing an existing passion and foundational knowledge to the role.
• Direct experience evaluating and managing external partners, including ingredient suppliers, manufacturing partners, external formulators, and regulatory agencies: assessing technical claims, production capability, and quality systems.
• Comfort building relationships with non-traditional supply chain partners, farmers, researchers, seed breeders, not just conventional vendors.
• Real experience designing and running consumer research, surveys, focus groups, concept and sensory testing, and translating findings into product decisions.
• Regulatory and claims substantiation experience in skincare or a comparable regulated category.
• A strategic leader who thrives as a high-level individual contributor. You are execution-focused, detail-obsessed, and highly capable of leveraging cross-functional teams and external agency partners to bring a bold vision to life with technical rigor.
• Strong project management skills, able to manage multiple supplier and development workstreams simultaneously.
