Associate Creative Director (NYC, Part-time Freelance)

About this position:

As the Associate Creative Director of KraveBeauty, you will play a pivotal role in developing the creative identity and vision of the brand. In this role, you'll be the driving force behind our visual identity and content strategy, crafting experiences that make hearts skip a beat and minds click. You'll be a chameleon, seamlessly switching from brand strategist to video mastermind to photoshoot maestro, all while championing KraveBeauty's unique voice and mission.

You will report to the CMO and work closely with the Director of Marketing and Founder as well. We are seeking someone who is not only creative but also sustainability-minded and is craving an opportunity to create a positive impact in the industry.

Your Role & Responsibilities

  • Brand System & Packaging:
      • Craft, own, and enforce the evolution of our entire brand architecture and packaging system, ensuring it reflects our brand identity across all touchpoints. As the brand gatekeeper, you will be responsible for the consistency and cohesion of all consumer-facing messaging and visuals.
  • Content Strategy & Execution:
      • Lead the charge in building our creative voice through video-first storytelling. Think scroll-stopping visuals, engaging formats, and content that best portrays KraveBeauty’s voice that is unique to the brand.
      • Plan, script, and oversee video content production, collaborating with internal and external teams to bring your vision to life.
      • Work alongside the Marketing Director to ensure KraveBeauty’s brand messaging and brand priorities are being directly translated into the content we create
      • Lead the development of creative assets that visually communicate KraveBeauty's sustainability story.
      • Integrate sustainability considerations into all aspects of the creative process, from concept development to execution, ensuring consistency and impact.
      • Partner with the marketing team to ensure that KraveBeauty's sustainability messaging is consistent and impactful across all channels, both internally and externally.
  • Photoshoots & Video:
      • Lead the charge on in-house brand shoots, from product still life to lifestyle imagery.
      • Lead and operationalize in-house brand content and asset development, including both digital imagery and video.
  • Creative Team Leadership:
      • Assemble your Avengers, both internal and external! Build, inspire, and lead a team of talented creatives, both inside KraveBeauty and through external partnerships.
      • Provide mentorship, guidance, and feedback, helping your team reach their full potential and push the creative boundaries.
      • Delegate tasks effectively, manage projects from ideation to completion, and ensure deadlines are met within the allocated budget.
      • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including marketing and product development to achieve integrated and cohesive brand messaging
      • Own and manage the entire creative budget, ensuring every dollar is spent strategically and maximizes brand impact.
      • Track project expenditures, negotiate with vendors, and work with finance teams to ensure financial accountability and transparency.

    Technical but important stuff

    • 8+ years of experience in a creative agency or brand setting, with a proven track record of success in brand strategy, content marketing, and visual storytelling.
    • 3+ years of overseeing and building creative teams from the ground up
    • A deep understanding of the beauty industry, especially the digital & social media generation landscape and its content consumption habits.
    • Strong video production experience, from concept to execution, is a must.
    • Past experience creating integrated content across multiple marketing channels from digital, social media, paid media, mobile, and also offline and print 
    • Strong proven ability to empathize with and understand the consumer 
    • Passionate about building a challenger brand toward iconic status
    • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and storytelling skills (incl. the ability to communicate effectively in small and large groups, both internally and externally)
    • A portfolio of work that has driven consumer behavior through strong insights, brave decisions, and innovative execution, preferably experience with digitally-native brands
    • Budget management and acumen
